Singing for the Brain Artists Celia Bryce and Sharon Bailey
A year-long research project using audio recordings, photography and digital video.
Singing has been an integral part of the Friday afternoon activities for 4 years. It is a levelling activity – people don’t stand out because they can’t remember things or get it right. Everyone feels they can have a go. These sessions have clearly shown that singing grows confidence and a feeling of wellbeing –so leading to an improvement in quality of life. The familiarity of the weekly sessions breeds a feeling of happiness, well-being and achievement.
This project was supported by Newburn, Denton and Lemington Wards and by Northern Rock Foundation..
