Year Two

Ceramics

Our elders have enjoyed working with Ceramicists throughout the last few years, creating small individual items that they have taken home and producing two public works of art to the main entrance and the front of the building. We have undertaken a further one-year ceramic residency with Jane Hufton and Annette Poulson to explore people expressing themselves through clay. Through previous projects people have demonstrated how much they enjoy the process of making one-off, personal items in ceramic, where they are involved from start to finish. The artists have built trusting and warm relationships over the past with people who have been making pieces mainly inspired by what they see around them (from gallery visits or source material in the way of books) and although valued and valuable in the terms of building skills and confidence with the material, end up as mini replicas.

Service users have indicated that they are ready to take on more challenging projects, some of the things that have emerged are sculptural self-portraits, personal dinner-sets/place settings.

We would like to be able to offer this residency encouraged people to be even more creative and brave, to work through the process from a more imaginative and personal angle.

Year Three

Textiles, Photography, Creative Writing

Finally, in Year Three the Grange will introduce the Service Users to a new Art form. Textiles will be incorporated into the Arts Programme and the Textile Artist will work in collaboration with a Photographer and Creative Writer. They will introduce “Hopes Dreams and Aspirations” theme to the elders and look at developing the project to incorporate a combination of Textiles, photography, words and stories. Binding the project together and tying in all their personal thoughts and feelings of the 3-year project.

Service users would work with all three artists together and individually, developing ideas initially through small scale work and then moving on to a more collaborative piece that will bring all service users ideas and art forms together to express the Elders views around their Hopes Dreams and Aspirations.
